Our Partners
Here you can find out about our partners and their roles, how we all work together, plus lots of useful links and information.
Northland Road Safety is driven by many partners including the Northland Transportation Alliance. Key goals include implementing the Road To Zero Strategy by incorporating a Safe System approach, which targets safe roads, safe speeds, safe vehicles and safe road use. This ties in with road safety strategies at both national and regional levels.
Northland has made huge progress in Road Safety over the past few years thanks to our Police, Road Controlling Authorities, Government Agencies and various community organisations who continue to work together to improve driver behaviour and the safety of our roads.
Much of Northland’s road safety activity has been guided by evidence based Road Safety Strategies, Action Plans and regular Crash Reduction Studies and Audits.
The national strategy Road to Zero is founded on the safe system approach. This approach joins the four tenets of: Safe Roads and Roadsides; Safe Speeds; Safe Vehicles; and Safe Road Use in a focused whole of system approach to road safety. A fifth pillar ‘Post Crash Trauma Response’ is quickly being recognised globally as a further key element saving lives.
This Northland Road Safety Action Plan has been developed to link the national strategy to our Northland action. It identifies priority areas of action based on evidence based data from the Crash Analysis System (CAS), Hospitalisation and Injury related data from both the Northland DHB & ACC partners. It is available to assist and guide our partners regarding local action plans in tackling the identified local & regional issues.
Over the last few years we have had a heightened conversation about road safety within our communities. Let us continue to talk about, and act on those issues which most affect us in our communities.
Road Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility as we work to achieve a Road to Zero goal of a 40% reduction in death and serious injuries by 2030.
