Eighteen deaths have occurred on Northland roads year to date. Once again these deaths are avoidable if drivers make smarter decisions prior to driving and during their journeys. Summer is a very challenging time on our roads and traditionally has seen an increase in fatal and injury crashes in Northland. We will see increased vehicle numbers with the prolonged holiday season, tourists unfamiliar with our roads, festivities taking place, alcohol and fatigue all being key risk factors.

Lots of roading and safety improvements are taking place across the network but each and every driver and passenger needs to play their part – ‘road safety is everyone’s responsibility’.  Please drive with care, be patient and courteous and get to your destination and loved ones safely.
