In 2009 Council made a Bylaw that regulates the use of vehicles on beaches in the District. Council has now reviewed the Bylaw to determine how well it is working or if it needs to change.  As a result of the review, Council is now proposing amendments to the Vehicles on Beaches Bylaw 2009.

Current Bylaw

The bylaw came into effect in December 2009.

Proposed amendments

Council has reviewed the Bylaw in accordance with section 158 of the Local Government Act 2002 (LGA 2002), which states that Council must review a new bylaw within five years of it being made.

As a result of the review, Council is proposing to make some changes to the Bylaw.

The main change from the current Bylaw is that we are proposing to add another prohibited area, in addition to the existing one in front of the surf club, to Ruakaka Beach in front of Marsden Village.

More detailed information on the proposal can be found in the Statement of Proposal, which includes a draft of the proposed amended Bylaw.
